Youth Awareness Program

Our Event

On August 15, 22 & 29th, DEF, the UN and UWI will be hosting a 3 day Sustainable Development Goals Youth Awareness Program.

Participants will learn about Global Sustainable Development Goals and be given the opportunity to generate and present their ideas to improve their communities.

The UN will partner with the students presenting the most innovative idea to bring their vision to life! Updates will be posted regularly on the UN website displaying the progress within the community.

Our Goal

The UN is marking its 75th anniversary at a time of great disruption for the world, compounded by an unprecedented global health crisis with severe economic and social impacts.

In honour of the 75th anniversary, the United Nations held dialogues around the world and across borders, sectors and generations throughout 2020. The aim is to reach the global public, listen to their hopes and fears, and learn from their experiences.

UN75 aims to build a global vision for the year 2045, the UN’s centenary, to increase understanding of the threats to that future and to drive collective action to realize that vision.

Our Partnership

To effectively empower youth during this time to become aware of their role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in voicing their opinions on issues they believe the United Nations should be addressing, the United Nations in Trinidad and Tobago & the University of the West Indies have partnered with the Decibel Arts and Entertainment Festival.

The Decibel Arts and Entertainment Festival (DEF) has been one of the most successful events targeting youth in Trinidad and Tobago since its inception in 2014. The three-day festival draws in more than 15,000 people and has developed and maintained links to 120 secondary schools and 18 tertiary education institutions in Trinidad and Tobago, with full endorsement from the Ministry of Education.

Given the current COVID19 situation, outreach and engagement is even more important to ensure youths realize they are essential in the efforts to build a better tomorrow.
